On Monday March 21st, we celebrated the launch of Mike Levy’s book, ‘Get the Children Out! Unsung heroes of the Kindertransport’.
After being welcomed in by the Jewish Museum, who graciously hosted the event, we gathered to hear about the important stories covered within the book, as well as hearing from the book’s chosen charity partner, Safe Passage.
‘Get the Children Out!’ has been published in support of Safe Passage, who help unaccompanied child refugees find legal routes to sanctuary. £1 from every copy sold is being donated to Safe Passage, aiding in their vital work.
We first heard from Safe Passage’s Development Manager Helen Hanson, as well some of the charity’s Young Leaders, who enlightened the attendees as to their work, and the situation facing refugees worldwide.
Mike Levy then spoke, sharing exerts from the book, including on heroes Brigadier General Deedes and Rabbi Solomon Schonfeld (look them up in the book to learn more about their stories!), as well as sharing his experiences in writing the book. It was a privilege to hear him deliver such an engaging and insightful talk.
We were also joined by individuals with personal ties to the Kindertransport. Within the crowd were two Kindertransportees, Sir Eric Reich and Lore Robinson, as well as many relatives of the heroes from the book. In a poignant moment, all individuals whose family had taken in children from the Kindertransport stood and were applauded by the rest of the audience.
This was an important night for Lemon Soul, being our first book launch! It was a culmination of a lot of work, and we were honoured to celebrate Mike’s book amongst so friends.
