Chicken Soup

The main theme of the film and book is Chicken Soup Under the Tree.  Research why most Jewish communities have chicken soup as an integral part of their meals, especially on Shabbat.

Extension Activity

Using your research, describe how several different Jewish communities have adapted chicken soup to reflect their country of origin. For example, Salonikan (Greek) Jews have egg and lemon chicken soup.
